Peristomal Complications

Ideally, ostomy appliance system is changed twice a week. If you are changing your ostomy appliance more often, you may need to reevaluate the appliance you currently use or you may need accessories. Leakage under the skin barrier can cause irritation to the peristomal area. Peristomal is the immediate skin around the ostomy. 

Complications to look out for:

• Leakage under skin barrier
• skin irritation
• wounds
